  4. Very good idea to bury the birdhouse in a thorny area as they will feel safer from the hawks - birds which dive down from aloft. I too have put my feeders close to some cedars where the tentative finches can escape to if threatened. I remember walking in the country fields and seeing how many rabbits and birds' nests were in thorny tree habitats.
